How the Program Works
WSIB created Safety Groups to reduce workplace injuries and illness. It is a one year performance–based premium rebate program, in which companies work together on key safety initiatives designed to reduce injury frequency and severity, and improve their workplace health and safety. Success of the Program is achieved through the attendance of group meetings (held locally across all three Chapters), one-on-one consulting appointments, industry expert presentations, and the guidance and support of a health and safety professional throughout the entire Program.
Who is it for?
Companies who are committed to improving their health and safety, are looking to build a network and share best practices with other like-minded companies in the region.
To participate in the Safety Groups Program, you must:
- be a Schedule 1 firm;
- be in good standing with the WSIB;
- be committed to participating for at least one full calendar year;
- not be a member of the Small Business Health and Safety Programs (formerly SCIP); and
- participate in only one safety group at a time.
In 2017, GVCA was the highest scoring construction Safety Group in Ontario.
Our group is successful because we follow a unique structure including: 10 working meetings per year, small group sizes, full program support from Ellaline Davies, Safety Group facilitator (24/7 accident/injury and form 7 assistance, audit preparation, year end binder reviews, 2 hours of private consulting time and Case Management training).
We focus on the management of injured workers and prevention of accidents and injuries We assist you in getting your injured worker back to work in a safe manner, thereby reducing the costs that you incur with the WSIB. Appropriate Case Management will be of major importance, as the WSIB moves towards the ‘new’ Rate Framework in January, 2020. Under the Rate Framework, Safety Groups will be an effective method of ensuring you have the lowest possible premiums.
Joining GVCA Safety Group is like adding an extra staff person, for a fraction of the cost!
